In cow’s milk, there is a little more lactose – 4.7%, and in goat’s milk this parameter is 4.1%. Therefore, goat milk can be consumed by people with mild lactose intolerance. Most often, goat’s milk is recommended for those who are allergic to cow’s milk. But one cannot speak about the complete hypoallergenicity of the product that goats give.

It has been established that goat’s milk contains four times more copper than cow’s milk, and 134% more potassium. And in goat milk there is more folic acid – 10 times, five times higher than the content of vitamin B-12.

But there is another type of milk that is of great interest and heated debate – goat. So what is the best food for kids? At what age can it be given to a child? Let’s dispel some popular myths. 1. Goat milk is better absorbed by the body. YES, but…

2. Goat milk is non-allergenic. NO.
The paucity of data on allergy to goat’s milk only indicates a low prevalence of this product. Any animal product can cause allergies. Another thing is that due to better digestibility in the stomach, goat’s milk is less likely to cause eating disorders, which result in skin rashes and regurgitation in infants.

3. Goat milk has more vitamins. YES, if…
…it’s whole, unboiled milk. However, we do not recommend giving it to young children! And there are almost no vitamins in boiled milk, and it doesn’t matter what it is: goat’s or cow’s.

4. Goat milk has more protein than cow milk. YES, but…
…it’s more correct to say that goat’s milk has a little more protein and a little less casein than cow’s milk. In any case, the amount of protein in both types of milk is excessive for a child under 1 year old.

5. Goat’s milk can be used to feed children allergic to cow’s milk protein. No way!
This common misconception can lead to big problems. As follows from point 4, there is less casein in goat’s milk, but not enough to recommend it as a replacement for cow’s. In this case, diet therapy and special amino acid mixtures, as well as cereals based on them, will help.

6. Goat milk is fatter. YES. Therefore, it is more useful. NO.
Fats are different, and simply counting the fats in milk will not give anything. Polyunsaturated fatty acids contained in human breast milk contribute to the development of the baby’s nervous system. Fats in animal milk are different – they give, first of all, the growth of adipose tissue and weight gain. What fats the child needs, decide for yourself.

7. Goat milk contains more minerals: calcium and phosphorus. YES. But is a high content of these components useful for a child under 3 years old? NO.
Up to three years, the child’s body absorbs all the phosphorus that comes with food, then the excess is excreted, taking calcium and vitamin D with it. This situation can lead to a serious lack of elements that are essential for the health of the child. And only after three years, goat’s milk, along with cow’s milk, can be safely included in the child’s diet.

8. Goat milk can be used to feed children with lactase deficiency. NO.
The lactose content in both types of milk is about the same.

9. Diluted goat’s milk can be consumed by babies under 1 year old, but not cow’s. NO.
Those slight differences in composition that exist between these products, when diluted in half, tend to zero at all. Until the age of one, it is undesirable to feed children with the milk of ANY animals.

Summarize. Comparing two types of milk: goat and cow, we did not find a critical difference between them . Up to a year, it is better not to use animal milk in the baby’s diet at all: it is too heavy and poorly absorbed. And if you use it, then only boiled and diluted half with water.
