How to choose red apples

Seasonal fruits are considered the most useful, because they are not processed by chemicals. When buying fruits, you should pay attention to the appearance: the surface of the peel should not be too shiny, clean from darkening, dents and brownish dots.

It is recommended to give preference to medium-sized apples so that they are not overripe. Otherwise, the body will receive a smaller amount of vitamins than it could be. Also, do not forget about the smell: if the apple does not smell, there is a high probability that the fruit was “fed” with additives for rapid growth.

Let us know in a comment and we’ll add it:

Apples are considered a dietary fruit – there are hundreds of diet options where apples are the main component of the menu. The calorie content of an apple, its composition, the ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, indeed, claim the right to be called the most useful for losing weight. However, not all varieties are suitable for these purposes.

Red and green varieties, “idared” and “semerinka” have fundamentally different “weight” for the waist and the number of calories. What is important to know when compiling a diet, how to eat apples correctly, what colors of fruits to choose on a diet – read all the secrets of fruits in our article.

calorie content of apples

Apples are perhaps the most affordable fruits for Russians. Trees thrive in our climate, grow well and produce high yields that store well and are used in many dishes. Fresh juices, smoothies, charlotte, casseroles and even salads – apples are good in all forms, and how healthy they are!
The fruits contain:

  • phosphorus, magnesium, iron;
  • potassium, nickel, molybdenum, sodium;
  • vitamins of groups A, C, B (B1, B6, B9), H, PP;
  • fruit acids;
  • monosaccharides and fructose.

A huge plus in special substances: fruits are rich in pectin, useful for the liver and stomach, fiber, there are vitamins A, C, E, a large number of other trace elements and valuable fatty acids.

In addition to these advantages, apple – proteins, fats, carbohydrates (KBZhU) are ideal in terms of balance:

  • proteins are contained in an amount of 0.4 g,
  • fats – 0.1,
  • carbohydrates 9.8 g.

The rest is water, unsaturated and organic fatty acids, starch, monosaccharides and dietary fiber. Surprisingly, there is even ash in the composition: 0 5 g per 100 g of fruit. And the apple is also famous for the content of oxalic acid, useful to humans, which has the ability to oxidize, and then remove harmful toxins and toxins.

Glycemic index of apples

Many modern nutritionists are sure that the role is played not so much by the calorie content in food, but by what glycemic index (GI): is it low or high. Foods with a low GI are absorbed by the body longer, they do not cause a surge in blood sugar levels, which means they do not provoke gluttony. “High” foods, on the other hand, promote the production of insulin, which causes spikes in sugar levels, leading to uncontrolled appetite.

The GI of apples is 30, watermelons – 70, and honey – 90. That is why they cannot be considered a threat to harmony, even despite the high amount of saccharides.

What does the calorie content of an apple depend on?

The total calorie content of fruits averages 47 kcal, some varieties reach 71 kcal per 100 g of product. Some differences can be attributed to the difference in fruit varieties. The amount of carbohydrates in a sweet apple can be 10-20% higher than the sour one, the color of the skin and the content of monosaccharides also matter. But there are other factors that directly affect the calorie content. Some of them deserve attention.
Factors affecting the “weight” of fruits:

  • skin color: the brighter, redder, the higher the nutritional value of the fruit; true and yellow fruits can be very sweet and contain quite a lot of calories;
  • the places where it thrived. Apples grown in the southern regions, which have absorbed the rays of the sun, always contain more fructose. They are sweeter in taste and “weigh” in calories 1.5 times more. Northern fruits are always slightly more acidic, but from a dietary point of view, they are much more beneficial for the waist;
  • pulp texture: juicy, elastic “filling” more often indicates a low calorie content than a velvety, sweeter one;
  • fruit weight – large ones are always sweeter, more satisfying, more nutritious than small counterparts on the branch, even if they have the same variety.

The method of heat treatment of fruits also plays a decisive role.

How many calories in a green apple

The lightest in nutritional value are green apples. The calorie content of one green apple is calculated by weight: 100 g of fruit contains about 35 kcal, and one large fruit draws 70 kcal at most. Green fruits are considered the most useful for the figure. Soft varieties are slightly sweeter, hard – green varieties are sour, but they are well refreshed and perfectly quench their thirst due to their juiciness. Nutritionists recommend preparing detox smoothies with them, adding them to cottage cheese casseroles: proteins soften fruit acids and saturate for a long time.

When eating a green apple, bzhu plays a role not so much as the correct use: fruits are always eaten with the skin, for which the fruits are thoroughly washed before eating with a special brush. This removes the wax that the manufacturer often processes fruit with to increase its shelf life.

How many calories in a red apple

The nutritional value of a bright red or red-green fruit is approximately 47-71 kcal. They are sweet, rich in pectin and fiber, and can lower the level of bad cholesterol in the blood. Scientists from America urge all citizens over 35 to eat two red apples a day to maintain optimal blood cholesterol levels. At the same time, it is important to eat them raw.
But the desserts of their red apples are not forbidden to eat for losing weight people. Only in moderation and minimal heat treatment.

How many calories in a yellow apple

In yellow varieties of apples, caloric content ranges from 40-57 kcal, and carbohydrates are contained in the range of green and red varieties. Below is an example of the calorie content of the popular yellow variety of Golden apples. The yield factor also affects the number of calories in fruits. After all, if the year is fruitful and the apple tree bears abundant fruit, then the tree is most depleted than with moderate fruitfulness.

baked apple calories

The calorie content of baked apples is relatively low, on average it is 47 kcal per 100 g of product. However, it should be understood: since the water evaporates during the baking process, the calorie content may increase. Often in the preparation of baked treats, additional products are used, such as honey, sugar, raisins, nuts, dried apricots and other sweet ingredients. Therefore, the calorie content of baked apples increases in proportion to the products used in recipes. So the calorie content of a baked red apple will be 1.5 – 2 times higher. Sweet baked fruits can contain up to 100 kcal per 100 g, especially if you fill them with a sweet curd mass. Although in any case, such a dessert is preferable to a piece of pie or cake.

The benefit of a baked apple is that during baking, useful substances are maximally preserved in fruits – vitamins of groups B, E, C, A, PP, H.
Also the elements:

  • Potassium – necessary for the full functioning of the heart
  • Iron is an important component of the blood.

For the full functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, the use of baked apples is useful due to the high fiber content. Baked fruits, as is commonly believed, are the most harmless to the figure: by reducing the amount of fruit acids, increasing the level of pectin, they are absorbed by the stomach faster and help liver cells regenerate.

in dried apple

Dried apples are the best apple diet product in principle. It is a valuable source of dozens of trace elements, vitamins, pectin. Nutritionists strongly recommend keeping it in your purse, and eating it as a snack for an afternoon snack, replacing sweets, making fruit drinks from them, making tinctures and simply cutting them into kefir or fermented baked milk.

Meanwhile, about 240 kcal per 100 g of the product, which is several times higher than the fresh content. They also taste sweeter, because in the process of drying water comes out of them, the concentration of sucrose increases.

Despite the increased calorie content, 100 g of such fruits are acceptable in the diet of losing weight. They weigh little, but they perfectly saturate, lower cholesterol levels in the blood, help calcium to be absorbed, which in general helps to successfully lose weight even for pregnant and lactating women.

in soaked fruit

Soaked apples are obtained by a special way of fermentation, reminiscent of sauerkraut. Of particular value in such a product is the increased content of vitamin C, which has a beneficial effect on human immunity. Plus, soaked fruits have an excellent effect on the gastrointestinal tract, cleaning it gently and delicately. You don’t eat many of these apples, although they are not terrible for the figure and contain only 46 kcal per 100 g. One large fruit can contain no more than 80-90 kcal – it is easy to afford it at any time of the day.

In apple juice and compote

Now many are calling for actively drinking smoothies and fresh juices from freshly squeezed fruits. In terms of calorie content, they really fit perfectly into the diet – in a large glass of fresh juice from the “semerinka” from the strength of 100 kcal. But fruit acids can be contraindicated for people with gastrointestinal problems (in particular, high acidity), harm tooth enamel. Fresh juices are recommended to be softened with ice cream with sweet foods, for example, combined with mango or banana. In this case, the calorie content of the drink increases by 1.5 – 2 times.

It is also dangerous to drink industrial drinks because of the huge amount of sugar – the manufacturer neutralizes the high acidity of the fruit with them. Up to 300 kcal can be present in a glass – a real high-calorie bomb for a figure.

In this regard, homemade apple compotes are ideal. The hostess can always control the amount of sugar, add a little honey instead, acidify with citric acid. In a word, balance the product on your own. A glass of 250 ml of the right compote, cooked at home from seasonal fruits, contains no more than 150 kcal.

Calorie content of different varieties of apples in 1 pc and in 100 grams

A lot also depends on the variety – sweet ones are more sugary, nutritious, and with sourness they have freshness, but are safer in terms of weight loss.

Fuji apples

The variety was bred in Japan, where the fruits are simply adored and added almost everywhere – in compotes, desserts, salads. It is considered a winter variety – it is harvested in late autumn. A distinctive feature of the variety is sweetness and crispy crust. At the same time, they are quite nutritious – 70 kcal per 100 g, which is generally high for any fruit.

Calories in Apple Golden

Variety Golden – the most popular in America and Europe. There it is valued for its sweetness, honey taste, subtle unobtrusive sourness. The variety is used for the manufacture of industrial juices, desserts, baby food. Although, if you decide to lose weight with Golden, you should be vigilant: there are 53 kcal per 100 g of the product. Also, especially sweet varieties of the variety (with dark patches) have a high GI, that is, they provoke overeating. So a large fruit of a Golden apple weighing 180 g will have a calorie content of 95.4. But in dry form, they are a full-fledged replacement for any sweets that are good to drink with teas or low-fat fermented milk products.

Idared apples calories

The sour-tasting Idared fruits were brought to Russia from America, where the variety was bred. Unlike Golden, this variety is used for the preparation of candied fruits, it is baked, boiled, dried. Meet the fruits – feel free to buy. They are absolutely safe for the waist, having a value of 40 kcal per 100 g. In America, it is Idared that nutritionists prescribe to “weighted people”

Apples Red Delicious calories

Red Delicious combines sourness and sweetness, and the calories in it are quite moderate – 45 kcal per 100 g. Red Delicious looks juicy, it is used as a raw material for juices, syrups and compotes are made from it. But even fresh, the fruits are a wonderful fresh dessert that is stored for a long time.

Apples Royal Gala calories

But the Royal Gala variety, bred in New Zealand, is distinguished by a delicate skin, and the pulp has a vanilla flavor. The fruits are also juicy, low-calorie – from 50 kcal per 100 g – excellent, suitable for baking with cottage cheese and green smoothies.

In apples Semerenko

Semerenko apples are considered by many to be imported. But after all, the variety is the property of our, Russian breeders. It was brought out by agronomist Lev Simirenko back in the mid-50s of the last century. Apples are loved for their high yield, excellent appearance and are stored without spoilage throughout the cold season in Russia – from November to April.

In nutrition, the fruits were rated for their low calorie content – 37 kcal, low saccharide content, and the ability to quickly digest. However, this variety often tastes sour, which is why it is recommended to eat it either in a dry, baked form, or in the form of a smoothie with the addition of slightly sweeter fruits: kiwi, bananas, mangoes. Delicious and healthy fresh juices with pumpkin, carrots, celery – in a portion of the drink there are no more than 130 kcal, and it saturates for a long time.

seasonal apple

It is easy to guess by the name: seasonal apples are those that have ripened in their season. There are varieties that are harvested in early summer, there are late ones. But it happens that the most inexpensive varieties go on sale, which are transported in large quantities at the same time. Calculating the calorie content of such apples is quite difficult – the buyer should pay attention to the color of the skin, the region of growth and, of course, the taste of the pulp itself.

In any case, apples are calculated from 34 to 71 kcal per 100 g of product. Since the fruit weighs an average of 200 g, multiply the figure by two and eat with pleasure in a fresh, dry, baked form. But it is worth abstaining from industrial juices on a diet.
